Take away the vocals, and all you have is instrumentals. Then, unless the song was meant to be played with pure instrumentals, what do you have? Sure it might sound ok, but what's the point or theme of the song?

I've heard amazing lyrical songs that have been made into beautiful instrumentals.... There's more emotion in music other than the vocals. The other members of a band still put as much emotion as any singer would. People just don't understand it as easy as they can a vocalist.

The problem is, every single one of the songs he's posted was written with the intention of being a combination of lyrics and instrumentals, and when you take one of the two out the way he describes it, you're left with an incomplete piece. I don't deny that these people play with emotion, but these types of songs are a combined effort.

Can you take a plain lyrical piece and turn it into an amazing instrumental piece? Yes. Can you take an amazing instrumental piece and add vocals to it? Yes.

But once you hear a song with both, you associate the song with both, and it arguably doesn't "feel" or "sound" the same when separated.

^ that's what i'm talking about. i personally don't like it when the vocals are put at a much higher importance level than the instruments.
they should both contribute some sort of memorable melody.

i don't consider the instrumental parts of the songs i posted to be of good quality at all.
