I have no idea what I'm doing.
So I'm getting close to finally buying a graphics card, only problem is I look at this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=radeon+6850&x=0&y=0
and think this:
Outside of obvious factors such as price, brand, clock speeds, etc., anything I should be looking for in particular?

PSU requirements. I look at that because I use only a 500W.

Oh, also, size/dimension of card. Is your case large enough to fit it.

Mid-size case, it'll fit.
I guess I should be asking if there's any real difference between these to justify the weird fluctuations in price. If not, I might as well just buy the cheapest one since I'm not a hardcore gamer by any means.

Prices differ by companies. Probably longevity, noise, quality built by each company differ.

That's what I said when I was trying to put a new card in. Turns out it didn't fit.Aricake wrote:Suizide wrote:Oh, also, size/dimension of card. Is your case large enough to fit it.

Thinking back on it now, not getting to put that new card in wasn't too bad considering I had a 350W PSU and the card was expecting at least a 500W.

Re: I have no idea what I'm doing.
Sometimes the company that offers the card changes the price. Like my card was roughly in the 140-160 range for the same card, but from different companies. I ended up getting one that was like 155 because it came with a year warranty and stuff. Also the review for XFX were higher than a lot of the other cards.
Re: I have no idea what I'm doing.
As to defects, I've read a few about XFX fan noises are louder. But that's only for low/med units. High performance ones, dunno.

Re: I have no idea what I'm doing.
Other than what you listed you should also look at things like power requirements, size and other custom features. Some cards, like this one, has 2 fans instead of one, although it costs a little more.
Oh and I would recommend XFX. They are generally a good brand and they have a great warranty. I think all the 6000 series cards from them have a lifetime warranty.

My card works fine and really isn't that loud, especially compared to the 3 100mm fans on my case.
Re: I have no idea what I'm doing.
paruparuparuparuparu
My 100mm fan was okay for first few weeks, now it takes about half a minute to go to full speed (and in doing so, it makes loud fuzzing sounds before it clears up). :\

Re: I have no idea what I'm doing.
I'm not sure what you mean by "in" since ATX and mid-ATX are basically like SUV or Jeep relationship. ATX are larger and more bulky but it can hold even extended ATX boards of mothers. So it can hold more. Mid is well, you'll have to watch out for space sometimes. ATX most of the time don't have to worry about have too little space.
Though of course, looking at whether ATX or Mid-ATX, you should look at your PSU power cords/cables/etc and see if they reach.
ATX for really more for use of bigger space for not only letting you use more crap inside, but more/better airflow(depends how it's made though) for people who does high performance tasks, 345678D rendering, and hardcore gaming use.
Mid-ATX is commonly used because not much people are such high-end users.
So erm...a mid-atx case is fine.

Re: I have no idea what I'm doing.
As to quantity, (I think I start to see why you ask "in") I see a lot more mid-towers being sold than full-ATX towers.

Re: I have no idea what I'm doing.
Mines kind of inbetween. Its a little roomier than a mid, it can hold like 6 HD cases, 2 GFX cards, etc, but isn't quite OGM HUGE full ATX
Re: I have no idea what I'm doing.
Wat?
By ATX do you mean tower? Like Mid ATX = Mid Tower?

Re: I have no idea what I'm doing.
its just that i've heard numerous times that ATX will get replaced (BTX, ITX??, etc.), and i haven't kept up with tech for years. so i figured it might have been replaced. guess not.

The XFX card has reviews saying it's loud.
I'd prefer it to be quiet.

Quick. Get some chunky peanut butter and work it into your internet vent until it is flush with the surface.
This will prime your load catches and boost your desktop wallpaper.
