Soul Silver Empty Soul Silver

So I decided to restart my Soul Silver on my DS just for something to do, and i go to make new game, confirm override old game, etc. Get going on new game and play for about 5-6 hours and want to save.

Then it tells me that it is impossible to save because there is a different saved file. It says I need to go to the title screen and do the Up + Select + B combo.

Is there anyway of saving the game I have right now? It will delete the game I'm currently playing if I go to the title menu and do that combo, correct?

Anyone know a way around this?
