Best card in $200 - $250 range.

Sapphire Radeon 7850 OC Edition, OC it to the value of a $350 card, win for eternity. Currently what I have.
I can record BF3 on Ultra + 4xMSAA (Absolute max settings @ 1920x1080, with Fraps at 60 FPS full screen.

Did some research and as far as I can tell this card is 40 bucks cheaper and better. Better reviews on Newegg as well.

I only care about the card.

Personally, I prefer the air the one Kips linked. Being able to record with an OC'd card is nice, but a good card from a reliable brand that can run most games smoothly is probably a better buy. Also, OCing reduces the lifespan of the card, doesn't it?

The 480 is going to run much hotter under load (7850 @ 60, 480 will be at 95ish) and take much more power(7850 @ 218, 480 @ 376).

Overall the 480 won't last as long due to shitty temps, will suck up power and probably force you to buy a bigger PSU.

If you get the 7850 OC Edition you can overclock it to perform much better and still have much lower temps.

OC'ing itself does not decrease the lifespan, temperatures do. If you've OC'd your card and the temps are 90~ then yes, OCing will reduce the lifespan, but with this card the fans are good enough so you can't even OC it enough to get bad temps unless you unlock the safety caps in afterburner and go retard-mode on it.


As for reviews, they don't mean anything since people are more likely to actually leave a review if they've had a bad experience, since reviews are obviously not mandatory.

also 7850 is new. you can always pick a different 7850 brand like asus.

480 is 2 gens old.

For Sapphire 7850s, OC Edition means that the cards which are less susceptible to overclocking were binned and sold as the regular non OC Editions, and the cards which handled OC'ing better were sold as OC Edition. You'll most likely be able to overclock any OC Edition by quite a bit.
