is my gpu dying?

three times this week, when i woke my laptop from standby, i would get a very colorful screen of assorted colors. if it happens again, i'll take a picture...

That or the screen is shit or something came loose or it's overheating.

As Faggot says. However, since I had a problem like this before, I think it's mostly laptop wiring is getting loose. GPU dying would first show performance degrade(usually). Overheating would rather shut off first.

Open laptop and check display link and see if it is loose. :V

ahh, very true. now that i think about it, everytime that it has happened, it was right after i took it out of my schoolbag. the only problem is, i don't really have time to be tinkering around at the moment -.-

are there any general tricks to opening up laptops? i'm convinced it's a loose monitor cable right now, because it only happens when i carry it around.
but i've got no clue on how to open it up.

What model's it? And you definitely need the small screw driver.

the screwdriver, i've got. my laptop is an Asus x83vp-a1.
it's not exactly common, so i can't just find a guide to opening it.

Searched more of Asus x83 than full model number. But still not a lot. You can try more though.

I think the video guy takes more things out needed(like the CPU fan). Start out removing all bot screws and CD drive. Then screws behind. Then keyboard.

just had a fright... had to hit the laptop lid a thousand times this morning before the screen went back to normal.

i've got 3 midterms this week, so i can't afford to lose my laptop for the next few days.

gonna open it tomorrow, after my main midterms are done... hoping it's just a loose connector, since my screen has no cracks or anything. at least i know that it's something wrong inside the monitor, not the base.

first boot afterwards, boot screen was messed, but as soon as windows kicked in, it was back to normal-ish. while windows was loading, if i tapped the lid, it would mess up a bit. but it seems to be ok right now.

i'm thinking the cable probably went bad. i broke quite a few hinges opening the monitor lid, because the plastic has gone brittle.

so this is what it looks like when it really messed up. then i slam the lid down, or shake it, and it's fine again.

That happens to my Acer Aspire One. I hit the screen and it goes back to normal >_>
