There has to be a s2/movie because the ending was k. I'm giving this anime an overall 9.5/10.

I thought the wtflesbians were hinted at in one of the 1st episodes where Yayoi walks out of the room Akane was about to go into to meet Shion.

they should have closed it off with this season, not left everything for the second. so many unused instances of chekov's gun in the end.

The did make really good use of foreshadowing throughout the whole thing. The whole holograms are dispersed by water was pretty clever. I think Gen wrote a story way too big to finish in one season from the beginning (given the opening wasn't relevant till 16), and I'm glad they didn't try to finish everything all in one go (might have felt rushed).

But that ending just made me sad. I didn't see any of Akane's previous self in final scene, which was a bit of a downer to see that optimistic recruit completely washed away.
