I'm planning to upgrade my family desktop pretty soon. I'm just wondering since money is a problem for me, what should I purchase firstly, a new CPU or a Graphics card with PSU?
Quick run down of the desktop
2.10 Ghz dual core
2 Gb ram
Ati Radeon 3000

Are you sure that CPU would fit in your motherboard?

I hadn't really opened yet to see if it would fit. Does have to be a certain motherboard?

Check what socket it is and see if it's the same on the new CPU you're getting.

Hmm what do you do with this computer? If its not for gaming then you don't really need to upgrade the CPU, because chances are your not using all the power you have already.

If it is for gaming then a card would probably give better performance for less. Do you have anything more specific on that card though? ATI 3000 is just a series of cards, there are a lot of different ones within that series. Ex. 3870, 3850 etc.

Found this 6 year old Compaq Presario SR1625NX laying around the garage that had a virus a few years ago before ditching it in the dust. So I was wondering if it would still be upgradable till this day with some new processor and graphics card?
Specs
Athlon 64 (V) 3200+ 2.0 GHz
ATI Radeon Xpress 200
Asus A8AE-LE MOBO
2 Gbs of ram
160 GB hard drive
Window XP of course.
300-350w PSU
Lots of dust
